Starfall: Secret of Tyur’ma

Starfall: Secret of Tyur’ma is a 2D RPG mixed with visual novel elements and tactical battle elements. The game tells the story of a group of explorers that are trying to find a new home for humanity after Earth has been ruined by the acts of man. They stumble upon the planet known as VMK-102. Initial contact with the natives of the planet didn’t do so well, and now it’s up to the player to decide: will they take the planet for their species? Will they make friends with the natives of a planet they invaded? Or is something else on the horizon for them, interrupting their plans…?

A slideshow of the gameplay, featuring some of my artwork of the plants and natives.

For the art, we had to use 16×16 sprites for almost all of the overworld, only using 32×32 sprites for the character assets. It was a new challenge to try and provide enough detail with as few pixels as possible and still be able to tell what it was.

The overworld asset for the native that the player meets in Act I. I used the 2D asset the other artist used and converted it into a 32×32 sprite.

A gifset of the overworld plants used in Act III. The purple indicates corruption that took over the entire area.

A gifset of both the grassy bushes used in Act I as well as the dead bushes used in Act II.
